Dear Lion Members, Time is certainly going fast. We are already 75% finished with Lion’s year. We have 4 short months to prepare for the next President and his board members. Please consider serving on the board. We have about 8 positions open. We are going to be very busy with our activity schedule for spring and summer. Along with the waffle breakfast schedule, we will be holding the first all city garage sale event at Sand Creek Park, and be serving the City of Coon Rapids by managing the concessions and Parade for the 4th of July Celebration. This will require a lot of our resources. Thanks to our Lion Cardinal friends who have joined to help us be a stronger club. I find it unique to have a group of people join another group to work together for a common purpose, to serve others. The people and City of Coon Rapids should feel fortunate to have such people joining together with the power to serve. With the Lions InSight Event finished, I hope our club will endeavor to organize at least one event per year with the focus of seeing our Club InSight of others. Growing membership is what will help (continued on page 2) INSIDE THIS ISSUE 1 President’s Page 2 President’s letter cont. and open committee positions 3 Event’s and Birthday’s 4 Fun Stuff to do 5 March Food Share us to be stronger and to serve even more. When people see what we can do together and the fun we have, surely people will want to be a part of something that makes a difference for the community Thank you to everyone for what we have accomplished over the last 8 months. Keeping things organized is no small task. The chair people of our committees have done a great job of keeping us organized. Thanks to everyone who has helped out these chair people and worked the events to make things successful. Lastly I want to point your attention to the newest addition to our club. It happens to be the website! Check it out at coonrapidsnorthstarlions.com. It looks just terrific. Lion Diane has created the site and has offered to maintain it for now. If you have comments or suggestions please let Lion Diane know. I think it will be a great addition in communicating with lion members, the community, other lion clubs and of course showing pictures of the fun we have as a club. Thanks Lion Diane. He moved to Ontario, and then to the United States, settling in Boston, before beginning his career as an inventor. Throughout his life, Bell had been interested in the education of deaf people. This interest lead him to invent the microphone and, in 1876, his "electrical speech machine," which we now call a telephone. News of his invention quickly spread throughout the country, even throughout Europe. By 1878, Bell had set up the first telephone exchange in New Haven, Connecticut. By 1884, long distance connections were made between Boston, Massachusetts and New York City. Bell imagined great uses for his telephone, like this model from the 1920s, but would he ever have imagined telephone lines being used to transmit video images? Since his death in 1922, the telecommunication industry has undergone an amazing revolution. Today, non-hearing people are able to use a special display telephone to communicate. Fiber optics are improving the quality and speed of data transmission. Actually, your ability to access this information relies upon telecommunications technology. Bell's "electrical speech machine" paved the way for the Information Superhighway. Alexander Graham Bell’s Birthday is March 3rd.
